Music plagiarism or stealing of musical works is not new to the Ghanaian music industry and so long as the industry continues to expand, accusations of artistes stealing songs or beats will also persist.
Over the years, some of Ghana’s multiple award-winning stars have been accused by mostly upcoming artistes of this practice.
In fact, most of the songs in question have either won awards or topped charts across the country.
C.E.O of One Mic entertainment has just added his name to the long list of popular Ghanaian artistes accused of stealing songs. Rapper Okyeame Kwame has been accused of ‘stealing’ the concept of a songs belonging to a music duo called “De Exit.”
In an exclusive interview on Somanya-based radio station, hosted by one of the finest radio presenter, Papa Attitude,’ disclosed that, they paid sound engineer Aboki to record a song tittled “Mobile money” for them so it came to them as a surprise when they noticed that the “Best Video of the Year” award-winner at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards, Okyeame Kwame has released that same song with their tittle and content.
De Exit music duo chided that, “when we contacted Aboki, he claimed that Okyeame Kwame recorded his song before we approached him. Later,Aboki refused to pick our calls. All attempts to reach Aboki were in vain. Fews days later, a lady was picking our calls telling us Aboki was busy working. Therefore we needed a compensation of Two million Dollars($2million) from Okyeame Kwame”, De Exit told Papa Attitude.
De Exit’ music group is made up of two blood brothers by name Daniel Tetteh and Emmanuel Tetteh currently working under ‘one map entertainment’.
