The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Mr. Godwin Amarh has revealed all members have been instructed to go back to their various sites to operate their mining activities since there was no official letter written to them by the government to stop mining in the country.
They have threatened to go back to their various sites despites government plans for mining activities.
According to Mr. Godwin Amarh, they can no longer accept radio discussions to stop mining activities adding that, they are registered mining companies and for that matter their activities must continue without any obstacle.
Speaking on Agoo fm 96.9 evening news analysis program ‘’Na Wo Kaa No Sen’’ on Wednesday 18th May 2017 with hostess Abena Opokua Ahwenee, Mr. Armah said ,the small scale miners agreed to leave their sites to help drive away reason the illegal miners. He added that they can no longer wait since their bankers are on their neck.
‘’we have told our members who have the license to go back to their sites and work, after all we acquired our license from the mineral commission besides, the ministry of lands and natural resources has not officially informed or written to us to stop work.’’ He stated.

However, Registered Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana have cautioned mining operators to be mindful of their activities, since mercury they use in processing the ore poses health threat to people leaving in those areas.
Speaking on the same platform, General Secretary for this group, Prince Opuni Frimpong condemned the mining activities in the country. He called on ” all and sundry” to support the government quest to do away with illegal mining popularly known as Galamsey
