The Chief of Akyem Senkubenase in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region, Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II has described allegations leveled against him of extorting and squandering money from illegal miners with the nomenclature ‘galamseyers’ as a set up formulated by the queen mother of Akyem Senkubenase and some other residents purposely to disgrace him.

Some residents of Akyem Senkubenase in the Atiwa District of the Eastern region recently alleged that their chief, Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II, brought illegal miners to the town including Chinese nationals, took huge amounts from them before permitting them to mine gold in the area.

According to them, the Chief after receiving concession returns from the miners failed to render account to the community, neither has he embarked on any developmental project out of the proceeds. Therefore they demand accountability of the ‘Galamsey money’ from the Chief. Meanwhile the Chief has dismissed the allegations that he has received monies from illegal miners in the area including Chinese nationals.

He said the queen mother of Akyem Senkubenase, Obaahemaa Nsia Boasiako disregards him and has been plotting numerous evil schemes against him to cover up her own misdeeds. However in an interview with Eugene Akoto Bamfo on Agoo fm’s “ene nso biem” Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II revealed that the queen mother not long ago poured insults on all the elders of Senkubenase and has since refused to render apology. He added that the queen mother has always been assisted by one Paa Willie in carrying out her evil plots.

According to Osabarima Asiedu Boafo II there are no ‘Galamsey’ operations currently going on at Senkubenase, out rightly dismissing the claims.  “The Minerals Commission gave out a land size of about 28 square kilometers on concession to a minerals company called ULTIMATE MINING and for about four years now they have not operated on the land even though excavators and mining equipment belonging to them were seen on the land, so there is nothing like ‘Galamsey’ at Senkubenase, the aggrieved monarch indicated. He asserted that the queen mother, Paa Willie and another accomplice called Freeman have always been orchestrators in the sale of lands to illegal miners in the area.

He reiterated that he has not received money from illegal miners and that he does not depend on them. He insisted vehemently that he has never been behind mining activities making reference to an article he wrote on illegal mining with the heading “Galamsey, a scary sight” in Atiwa carried by the various media houses.
