No constituency executive has the power to appoint MMDCEs – David Prah

The Eastern Regional Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. David Prah has said no constituency executive has the power to seize anyone from becoming a District Chief Executive (DCE) or Metropolitan and Municipal Chief Executive (MMDCE).

Some aggrieved concerned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Afram Plains South of the Eastern Region have accused constituency and regional executives of manipulating the process of appointing District Chief Executives (DCEs) and Metropolitan and Municipal Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in that area.

The Local Government act only gives the President authority to appoint District Chief Executives (DCEs) and after the appointments, two thirds of the assembly members of the particular district or municipality must vote to endorse the president’s appointment.

Speaking with Eugene Akoto Bamfo on “Ene nso biom” he said those who are imposing personal choices on people of Afram Plains South Constituency must respect the structures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He further advised aggrieved party stalwarts to seek audience with Regional executives for redress and abstain from discussing matters on media platforms.

David Prah explained that even the regional executives don’t have the power to impose a choice on anyone unless the President approves, so those doing that should stop and allow everybody to express their candid opinion.

Again he said the eastern regional ministerial appointment may emanate from anywhere within the region not only Kwahu so all must exercise patience. He advised that the most important aspect is for the party to deliver its promises. “When you look at the ministers designate by President Akuffo – Addo, all are qualified to deliver so let’s hope for the best from the government Mr. Prah added.
