ABETIFI CONSTITUENCY NDC
On behalf of the National Democratic Congress in the Abetifi Constituency, We wish to thank party loyalists and sympathizers for the active role they played during the first phase of the 2016 Limited Registration Exercise that ended yesterday.
We also wish to commend the Electoral Commission and the Security Agencies for the various roles they played during the first phase of the registration. As we are all aware, a violent incident occured at the Nkwatia Post Office registration centre on friday 29/04/16.
Our monitoring agent in the person of John Teh was assauted by NPP macho men who came to the centre in an unregistered pick-up whiles he was going about his duty as an accredited agent of the party, inflicting Sharp Machete wounds on this innocent citizen.
Having enjoyed a peaceful co-existence with our NPP brothers in the Constituency over the years, it is regrettable that the introduction of their New Parliamentary Candidate will put Abetifi Constituency on a Violent map of Ghana.
We commend the police and civilians for arresting one of the hooligans and we are told the suspect is being processed for court this morning. However, the NPP executives in the constituency led by Bryan Acheampong are all over assuring people, the NPP will make sure the suspect is freed at all cost by influencing the police and the judge who is to prosecute and preside over the case. We wish to bring to the attention of these stakeholders the fact that, the incident has generated a huge public interest both in the Constituency and Nationally and that, the police and the presiding judge have a sacred duty to protect rule of law and ensure natural justice takes place.
The outcome of this case will give a signal as to how tolerant we are on electoral violence. Ghanaians are following the case with keen interest and any move to subvert the laws of our land will be resisted by all legitimate means.
